Impact Lives

Online Master of Public Health - Student Testimonials

Earning your Master of Public Health online from Benedictine University can bring changes and exciting new opportunities even before you have finished the program. Learn how an MPH degree has impacted the lives of our alumni and prepared some to serve proudly on the frontlines of COVID-19.

I work as a community health center in Washington state as the health educator. My role has allowed me to reach out to patients, particularly our Spanish-speaking patients, who may be under-informed about the pandemic. I feel that my efforts have helped aid outpatient population and community into better understanding the crisis at hand and ensure that they are prepared for what is happening.

Shannon Roussy, MPH 2019, a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), was among the first public health workers on the front lines of the pandemic when the COVID-19 outbreak first occurred in Washington state.

My work on COVID-19 began in January 2020 when we partially-activated our Public Health Operations Center (PHOC), in conjunction with our Emergency Preparedness colleagues, in response to the outbreaks in China and other countries. I'd like to give a shoutout to all BenU alumni nurses, epidemiologists, infection control professionals, doctors, and all other healthcare professionals working during this pandemic.

Lukas Ayers, MPH 2017, serves as an epidemiologist and emergency preparedness coordinator with the Wayne County Department of Health, Human, & Veteran Services in Michigan.

Life as a recent graduate from Benedictine University’s online MPH program has been more than rewarding for me. From my first course, to choosing an internship site, to applying for jobs, the opportunity has been exciting and life-changing.

Jose Adame, Online MPH 2020, currently working as part of an epidemiology team collecting and analyzing essential data on COVID-19 cases.

My role at Sparrow Clinton Hospital is Infection Preventionist and Accreditation Specialist. I worked in outpatient and emergency department patient registration while working on my MPH here at Benedictine. I could not be more grateful for where my educational path has led me. My advice to students is to keep your eye out for opportunities because you never know when one will present itself. Keep striving for greatness and stay true to yourself.

Christine White, MPH 2019, transitioned into a higher-level position while still working in the healthcare environment.
